AWC Foundation Transfers Funds to College

Dec 01, 2008 -- Foundation Transfers Funds

AWC Foundation & District Governing Board members gather for check presentation

Arizona Western College and the AWC Foundation announced the transfer of two million dollars to be used in the building of the AWC Agriculture & Science Complex.

Speakers at the press conference included AWC President Dr. Don Schoening, AWC Foundation Executive Director Ruth Whisler, AWC District Governing Board President Steve Shadle, AWC Foundation President Dave Egberg and AWC Facilities Management and Planning Director Bill Smith.

The AWC Foundation would like to thank community and contributors for their continued support of the Foundation and the Lifelong Learning Plan at AWC. Their donations to the fund will continue the efforts of the AWC Lifelong Learning Plan. Naming dedications will be announced at the official opening.

The Agriculture & Science Complex is one of the earliest new construction projects to come online as a result of the voter-approved $73,850,000 facilities bond in 2004. An additional two million dollars for the 88,807 additional square feet in classroom, lab and program space came from an AWC Foundation fund drive. This fund drive benefited three key components of the complex: the Agriculture & Science building, the Greenhouses, and the Agriculture Research building.

Features of the new complex include: a solar array second in size only to MIT; sustainable design, construction and operation; state-of-the-art greenhouses with three climate-controlled zones; and an agriculture research building.

The four-year construction process, which includes the CDLL, the Science and Agriculture Complex and the College Community Center, has been strategically managed to accommodate new construction with a minimum of disruption to educational programs. With input from the community, faculty, students, and staff, each project was individually tailored to meet the future needs of communities, while remaining within resources.
